Marvin Musquin stormed around the picturesque Washougal track in the Pacific Northwest and posted a 1-1 moto tally to win his second 450 overall victory in a row. The Frenchman is obviously clear of his mid-series knee injury as he was able to get into the lead and stretch out a sizeable advantage in both motos.
Previously a winner at the course in the 250 division in 2015, Marvin had a lot of eyes on him to race to the top of the podium and he did not disappoint as he showed his affinity for the Washougal track design. Meanwhile, series point leader Eli Tomac had somewhat of an off-weekend as the normally dominant Monster Energy Kawasaki ace was unable to win a moto. Despite this turn of events, he was still able to extend 18 points beyond Blake Baggett, the second place rider in the 450 standings. Baggett posted 7-4 scores to miss the podium, but still remain alive in the championship hunt.
The big story in this division was the outstanding performance of Martin Davalos, who placed his Husqvarna FC450 on the podium. Martin holeshot 450 moto 2 and led several laps before settling into a 3rd place finish behind Musquin and Tomac.
In the 250 division, it was Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savtagy winning for the second week in a row. Savatgy was going through a mid-summer slump for a couple of rounds, but has certainly found his stride in recent weeks. The battle for the overall victory was intense as Savatgy placed 7th in moto 1, which opened the door for his teammate Adam Cianciarulo, Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis, and series point leader Zach Osborne to all battle for the top spot on the podium. In the middle of that, Honda mounted RJ Hampshire put in the best ride of his 250 career in moto two, posting a runner up finish. In the end, Savatgy’s moto two victory was enough to capture the overall, while Osborne’s 4-3 was second and Ferrandis rounded out the podium with 3-4 moto tallies.
With three rounds and six motos left to race, Eli Tomac has a 32-point lead in the 450 class while it is still all Zach Osborne in the 250 division with a gargantuan 74-point advantage. The Pro Motocross Championship takes one week break and will return to action at Unadilla on August 12.
